Model United Nations

  • Title: Model United Nations

  • ProfessorProf. Dr. Volker Ulrich / Andreas Trauner, Chair for Economics III, esp. Public Finance, Faculty of Law, Business and Economics

  • DescriptionThe United Nations (UN) is the only globally recognized institution with a legitimate claim to solve international conflicts and problems in order to maintain peace and security. Model United Nations (MUN) is a simulation of the UN in which students take up the role of representatives of different countries and simulate approaches to settle international conflicts and enhance cooperation between them in conferences. By doing so, students gain valuable insights into international politics and boost both their academic and personal development. They work on topics like international relations and policymaking, crisis management and sustainable development, or technological progress and war. They gather profound knowledge on current disputes and the different positions in these. Students meet fellow delegates with a tremendous intercultural and academic background. In this way, MUN is beneficial for students of various disciplines and interests.

Key Learnings:

  • Gain knowledge on international conflicts, cooperation, and geopolitics.

  • Acquire an understanding about issues of global governance and the work of international organizations.

  • Develop negotiating, public speaking, and debate skills.
